Napali Coast

We just returned from a four day hike on the Napali Coast of Kauai. This is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands and the landforms are out of this world.

We hiked for about 35 miles in 4 days...it was so rad. Christy's shoes fell apart completely, that trail was the last straw. We got worn out but loved it so much! Some of the time we were hiking on cliff sides with wind blowing strong, and sometimes slipping and sliding over rocks and covered with mud.

There were fresh guava trees, coffee trees, and lime trees, also cherry tomatoes everywhere! Joseph was picking so much fresh goodness! We camped next to the sea and got to see and hear lots of whales, which was magical.

Exploring the waterfalls, beach, sea caves and forests was so spectacular. A lot of people live out there and it was a bit crazy right before we went, the rangers did a big raid and cut down all kinds of fruit trees, gardens and tents. What a crazy deal...they just don't want naked hippies living out there. :)

This hike gave us time to think about our trip and was like a picture of the journey we've been on. Our hearts have expanded, our minds stretched, our shoes worn out and our eyes opened. We have had more time to listen to what nature is saying about the Creator. To see and hear the bird songs, like this cardinal that loved hanging out at our campsite. It reminded us of how good of a leader God is and how He knows where we are now and where He's going to take us next. It is so good to be able to trust His wonderful heart.

We are AMAZED that we've been traveling over a year now because of Grace. So, only a few days left on Kauai and we are being rejuvenated. Clean laundry! Hot showers! Now we're not the dirtiest looking people on the island... :)

Love to you, -the Rauwolfs
